History: Barn party

In July 1953, the Aspen Society page of The Aspen Times recounted a gathering of friends: “A combination anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. Jens Christiansen and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Stapleton and birthdays of Evan Melton and Russ Garcia was enjoyed by people of Owl and Brush Creeks Friday evening, July 17. Mesdames John Hoaglund, William Skiff, Evan Melton and Bernard Stapleton planned the party. Everyone brought food for a pot luck supper and about 100 people gathered at the Owl Creek school house at 6:30 p.m. After consuming quantities of food, the floor was cleared and dancing was enjoyed until a late hour. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson (Bill and Hildur).”
