Four Dogs helps JAS raise money

Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Four Dogs Fine Wine & Spirits are teaming up for a night of music, wine and holiday cheer on Dec. 13.

The event, at the Four Dogs store in Willits, will include wine tastings from Fat Louis wines, hors d’oeuvres, JAS ticket giveaways and a live performance featuring JAS student musicians from the Roaring Fork High School Jazz Band. Sponsored by KSPN, the evening will kick off the JAS “Give the Gift of Music” campaign, raising funds for music education in Roaring Fork Valley schools. Free and open to the public, the tastings and music will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.

All funds raised through the JAS Give the Gift of Music campaign are designated for JAS In-Schools Programs, including instrument donations, teacher-assistance funding, summer camps, private-lesson funds, scholarships and more. These tax-deductible donations can be earmarked for specific needs within the schools and can be given in the name of an individual or a corporation or as a gift in another person’s name for the holiday season.

The current average annual budget for the public middle and high schools in the valley is $1,400 a year, according to a statement. JAS’ annual contribution to these programs is more than $100,000.

“Our student numbers in Glenwood have gone from around 110 in 2010 to 275 in 2013. A huge part of that success and enthusiasm comes from the support JAS has given to our students,” said Tami Suby, Glenwood Springs middle and high school band director. “Many of my students cannot afford the private lessons, instruments or other opportunities that JAS offers. Music programs around the country are being cut, but because of the support that JAS gives, our local programs are stronger than they have been in decades.”

Donations can be made at the Four Dogs event on Dec. 13, at the JAS Cafe Downstairs @ the Nell shows over the holidays (Dec. 20 and 21 and Dec. 28 through 30), online at http://www.jazzaspen snowmass.org or by contacting the JAS office at 970-920-4996.
