After an executive session on Jan. 6 that lasted close to three hours, the Snowmass Village Town Council decided to continue a vote on extending an offer for the job of town manager to Gary Suiter, who is currently in that role on an interim basis.

The council was slated to vote to approve, amend and approve, or decline a draft of an offer to Suiter at the regular meeting. Before moving to go into executive session, Councilwoman Markey Butler said the council did not yet have a consensus.

“The decision we’re about to make is extremely important to the future of this town,” Butler said.

Councilman Jason Haber seconded the motion. Mayor Bill Boineau called the vote, saying the reason for executive session was to discuss a personnel matter. The elected officials voted to go into executive session around 7:15 p.m. and didn’t emerge until almost 10, when they said they had decided to continue the agenda item to another meeting.

Suiter was town manager of Snowmass Village from 1990 to 2001. He has been interim town manager since Aug. 1. His contract has been extended through Jan. 31.
