Bettie Roberts Holtby

Bettie Roberts Holtby, nearly 91, died peacefully, December 1st, 2014 in Freeland, Washington on Whidbey Island.

Born on January 13th, 1924 in Pasadena, California, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Kenneth F. Holtby, and by her granddaughter, Susie Buren.

Known for her kindness, generosity, wonderful laugh, and deep interest in everyone she met, Bettie was an accomplished seamstress, a master needle worker, an avid reader, a lifelong animal lover, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent her life supporting and giving to others, particularly her family. In typical fashion, she spent her final days preparing Christmas cards and gifts for them. She will be greatly missed.



Bettie is survived by her children Mike Holtby (Judy Linn), Tracy Meilleur (Raoul), Jeff Holtby (Jennifer Sand), Kris Buren (Bobby) and Matt Holtby; her grandchildren Lisa (David Hlavsa), Damon (Lisa), Jamila, Carrie, Ryan, Amanda, Meadow, Birdie, and Hazel; and her great-grandchildren Benjamin, Jaden, and Malia.

A private memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on January 10th at the Whidbey Unitarian Universalist Church in Freeland. Remembrances may be made to Planned Parenthood, Good Cheer Food Bank & Thrift Stores, or Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation (WAIF).
