Beathard: I’ll take bored

Jill Beathard

You hear that?

A whole lot of nothing? Crickets? Tumbleweeds?

OK, just kidding. But it seriously does feel like a ghost town suddenly in both Snowmass and Aspen, and it is alright.

Even though offseason can be terribly boring when you’re like me and you actually have to stay put through most of it, for now, I’m relieved. After weeks of having a jam-packed schedule for both work and play, it’s nice that this week that there’s really nothing on the agenda. Besides council meetings… those just don’t know when to quit.

Moments of cabin fever are inevitable, but the fact that I already have my bike out and most of the trails are clear is comforting. As long as I can get outside, I’m good.

And there’s always the weekend. I’m kicking off this season with a trip to Moab — sorry Aspen Mountain, I’m over it.

There will probably be some other road trips in there, depending on how my gas money holds up. It might just be within Colorado, but hopefully it will be somewhere new.

And there’s trip planning, bridesmaid dress shopping, spring cleaning, and all those other errands that I should do but just can’t wrap my brain around midseason.

We all know mud season is not the reason we’re here, but there’s some reward in the peacefulness for those of who stick around. You get to know a different version of Aspen that makes you appreciate onseason and the many people who come and go here all the more.

So for now, I’ll take some peace and quiet.
