Artist Willie Cole to speak at Anderson Ranch

Willie Cole, who describes himself as an artist, ecological mechanic and perceptual engineer, will present a lecture on his work at 12:30 p.m. June 20 in Schermer Meeting Hall on the Anderson Ranch Arts Center campus.

Born in New Jersey, Cole received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts and continued his studies at the Art Students League of New York, according to a statement from the ranch. His work is influenced by a range of items and icons from high-heeled shoes to Tibetan prayer flags.

Cole is an exhibiting artist this month at Art 48 BASEL in Switzerland and is currently showing in “Against the Grain: Wood in Contemporary Art, Craft and Design” at New York’s Mad Museum.

The presentation is the second installment in the ranch’s featured-artist lecture series. Artist and author Trevor Paglen kicked off the series June 13.

The events are free and open to the public. Reservations are required. Email, or call 970-923-3181.
