Sean McAlindin is the editor of Sky-Hi News. Originally from New Jersey, he joined the team in April 2025. In his role, he supports and manages the newsroom’s staff and products, including its website, magazines and digital platform.
An English major at University of Colorado at Boulder, Sean’s first journalism job was as a reporter for the Rio Grande Sun in Española, New Mexico. For two decades, he pursued a career as an English teacher and outdoor educator, working in places like Brooklyn, Oakland, Lander, Bend and Truckee. Once upon a time, he drove the town bus in Crested Butte and lived in a pickup truck with his dog.
As a writer and editor at Tahoe Weekly, Moonshine Ink, Mountain Bike Action and The Mountains, Sean has extensive experience covering music, arts, government and public lands. In 2021, he won the Will Berry Hard News Reporting Award for his investigative work into national forest snowmobiling policy.
He’s devoted to ski town culture and has enjoyed writing about the Lake Tahoe music, arts and outdoor sports scenes for nearly a decade. In his far-reaching interviews, Sean has spoken with cultural icons from Walton Goggins and Ani DiFranco to Graham Nash and Herbie Hancock.
At Sky-Hi News, Sean is focused on covering the issues that matter to readers with depth and consistency. He encourages his reporters to develop their research and storytelling to deliver compelling, objective, fact-based content that enriches the knowledge and understanding of the community.
An avid outdoorsman, Sean enjoys backcountry skiing and rock climbing. He plays many instruments and loves to make music with friends.
