Thompson: Why the change of heart?

I call on your paper to shine a light on councilman Ward Hauenstein’s flip-flop relating to the “Known the facts when voting on entrance issues” (Aspen Daily News, Jan. 13). Councilman Hauenstein voted to fund the city process to start a new environmental impact study. Subsequently, he now publicly criticizes the EIS process as “too time-consuming and expensive.”

What is a citizen of Aspen to make of these contrasting positions?

Our community deserves consistency from our elected official and an explanation when they disavow a previous vote. One has to assume that there is an agenda that is not in the best interests of the citizens of Aspen. The fact that Councilman Hauenstein soon gives up his seat on the council is the best solution to bad representation on a very important issue before this community.
