Stephenson: Aspen wants the Preferred Alternative

I found the Aspen Daily News article “Entrance to Aspen survey results reveal community priorities” (Jan. 4, 2025) confusing. The survey clearly shows that the majority of city of Aspen voters want to move forward with the Preferred Alternative, AKA the Modified Direct. (The second “most popular” choice, the Split Shot, was a whopping 10 points behind). Despite the data proving what the citizens of Aspen want, the reporting indicated that city officials have a seeming burning desire to spend time (years) and money (millions) to develop a new “purpose and need” statement to supersede the 1998 Environmental Impact Statement that showed that the Preferred Alternative was the way to go for both ingress and egress.

What? Is it just me?
