Mooney: Preparing for the growing valley

Boy, oh boy! The election in March is going to be a doozy of a brouhaha. Jeffrey Evan’s protest about 40 years ago against the beginning of paid parking when he got cars to double-park, blocking a bit of traffic and blaring their horns, was small potatoes compared to what we will see.

Citizens, skip the NIMBY drama and propaganda. Hopefully we will decide the future Entrance to Aspen with both sides living peacefully with a lack of hostility, friction, and discord.

Being a staunch supporter of the straight shot entrance to Aspen, which will reduce by at least $1 million the value of those six Aspen Villas townhouses at 100 N. 8th St. whose living room sliding glass doors will have rush hour traffic just beyond their backyard, well, I am hoping we can at least tolerate each other both before and after the election.

Remember, there is no net loss or gain of naturally landscaped square footage to the Marolt Open Space. We need safe emergency exit traffic infrastructure, that means four lanes.

Whether you ride RFTA or not, we all need the most efficient RFTA system to keep up with ever growing valley traffic.

Yes, four lanes with two lanes dedicated to RFTA will not decrease the crazy numbers of private vehicles — nothing will, except hopefully a higher percentage of people will decide to ride RFTA .
