Light: Madsen for mayor
I am writing to endorse Bill Madsen for re-election as mayor of the Town of Snowmass Village.
For the past ten years, he has proven to be a leader who listens to residents. Working constructively with the Town Council, he makes well-informed decisions about the direction of the town, which balances the residents’ interests with those of the resort economy. He continues to support housing for the workforce who are critical for the guests’ experiences and the daily lives of the residents. He advocates for pedestrian-friendly as well as transit-oriented design. Recognizing the importance of arts, he approved the budget to include a new sculpture of a mother mastodon and her baby.
Most importantly, Bill takes strong public positions on major area-wide policy issues including the modernization of the Aspen airport which will ensure continued and safe commercial airlines service for full-and part-time residents.
In the 1970’s Jim Chaffin and I had the benefit of working for a brilliant new community developer who wrote a paper entitled the “The Art of Community Development.” The TOSV Mayor must have the experience, the listening skills, and the “art” to balance the complex issues of a small community.
