White: Be courteous on narrow trails

This valley is one of the most beautiful, peaceful and inspiring places on Earth. We have had a place here and been part-time residents for as long as I can remember. We have skied, biked, hiked, etc. all over. This place feels like the truest home anyone in my family has.

We were out hiking today on the Tom Blake Trail. It was my young son’s first time on that trail. We were enjoying ourselves and the magical mountains so much until we were almost obliterated by mountain bikers at several turns. There were some lovely bikers out there who knew and followed the rule of the trail, which is, “Bikers yield to hikers. Hikers yield to horses.” However, we were cursed at by other bikers for being in their way. One female biker out there said that a male biker had cursed her out using misogynistic terms. Hey, it’s supposed to be fun, not an opportunity to abuse people.

Tom Blake is a narrow trail and someone is really going to get hurt out there if mountain bikers continue to scream around the trail without a care for the rule or anyone else’s right to be there. Please, for everyone’s sake and enjoyment, please yield to hikers. The trails belong to all of us. Thank You!
