Susan Marolt for Aspen schools
We are fortunate to have so many well educated and passionate candidates seeking a seat on the Aspen School District Board of Education. As president of the Aspen Elementary Parent Teacher Organization and an involved community member, I support the re-election of Susan Marolt.
I had the pleasure of working with Susan on the school tax ballot initiative in Snowmass and I know firsthand the time and energy she put into working with the town to procure a place for this initiative on the ballot. She was persistent in her advocacy both in its initial stages and through the election process. I have also had continued discussions with Susan regarding the potential of increased school district employee housing and she has been very proactive with regard to this topic. Whether it is examining existing housing options or trying to come up with new and creative ways to increase the inventory, Susan recognizes the growing need and is passionate about making this a priority. In working with Susan, I appreciated her calm and approachable demeanor and found her to be an excellent listener and collaborator.
During her current 4-year term, Susan has illustrated that she is dedicated to making significant change for the future of our schools. I recognize that for some in our community the change has not come fast enough, but I assure you that the issues that have come to the forefront in this election — teacher housing, competitive salary schedules, test scores and the climate and culture of our schools are all topics that Susan is aware of and has been diligently working through during her current term. Progress takes time. It takes proper investigation into the issues at hand and a thorough vetting of solutions and ideas.
Susan most definitely has a pulse on the areas of greatest concern to our school community. Her experience and institutional knowledge are invaluable. A vote for Susan is a vote for continued forward progress for our schools. I hope you will join me in support of Susan by casting your vote for her on November 7.
