Strong support for Kerry Donovan
August 28, 2018
I am happy to be supporting the re-election of Sen. Kerry Donovan for Colorado Senate District 5.
She has been a strong advocate for her seven rural mountain counties since her election in 2014. She is accessible in person, phone, email, newsletter and social media. She has never disappointed me in her extensive knowledge of the issues, whether it is covered by one of her committees or not. She is a great listener and always encourages new ideas and comments to which she promptly responds.
As a Colorado native rancher and farmer, she understands water and small-business issues. She follows in her family's tradition of public service, having worked for nonprofits as an educator and archaeologist and in local government.
She wrote and carried several bills that would have decreased the high cost of health insurance and health care in rural Colorado. She did ensure that Telehealth is covered by insurance. She believes free effective contraception should be available to every Coloradan who needs it.
She added $10 million to the budget for the expansion of rural broadband and passed the Rural Economic Advancement of Colorado Towns Act to further support communities impacted by job losses. She plans to build on these successes in her next term.
Besides adequate funding of K-12, she supports affordable opportunities for every student who wants to go to college, vocational/technical training school, or do an apprenticeship.

It was not lost on many outdoor companies that she established Colorado Public Lands Day, the first public lands state holiday in the nation, as they relocate to Colorado. She blocked ill-conceived attempts to sell off our public lands. Living in a wildfire zone herself, she led the charge in the General Assembly to address climate change.
Kerry has been an effective voice in the State Senate; her voice will be much louder if she is in the majority next session. I urge you to give Kerry a chance to build on the foundation she has laid to build a better, stronger Colorado.
