Skadron gets it

Dear Editor:

Think about it. One of Aspen’s great local governance strengths has been the independent mindedness of its elected officials. This is especially true for the mayor’s position.

Aspen has never been a company town thanks to strong, highly principled mayors who have exhibited the determined leadership to preserve its critical small-town character. Steve Skadron is the one mayoral candidate who will continue this tradition that has benefited the town so well over the long term.

Steve Skadron understands that one of Aspen’s essential economic underpinnings lies in the town’s distinct differentness from corporate ski resorts. He is unique as a mayoral candidate in this way. Steve gets that Aspen is a community to live and prosper in — not a commodity to be sold.

An Aspen entrepreneur, he has tirelessly balanced the time demands of running a successful independent business with the commitment of serving his community in numerous ways. Beginning his community service in 2003 with six years on the city’s planning and zoning commission, Steve has consistently championed the town’s core values represented by the Aspen Area Community Plan. Walking the talk about energy efficiency he is currently chair of the CORE board.

Looking ahead to improve the economic opportunities for Aspen’s businesses and families, Steve’s thoughtful and inclusive leadership style is our best mayoral choice to realize Aspen’s promise.
