New Aspen City Hall is a big deal
What’s the big deal with the mayor and Aspen City Council granting another 4 feet in height to Hotel Aspen after voters passed a charter amendment limiting building heights to 28 feet between Aspen Mountain and Rio Grande Park?
On Monday, the mayor and city council at a public hearing will ignore Aspen voters’ core values of limiting building heights to 28 feet and will be rubber-stamping their approval for their new City Hall and offices at a height of 45 feet, 9 inches. That is almost 18 feet taller than what is allowed for anywhere else in the moratorium area.
The new City Hall sits right at the sidewalk on Rio Grande Place across from Rio Grande Park with an entry way of 20 feet above Galena Plaza in front of the library. Now that’s a big deal!
