Letter: Vote for Mick

This letter is in support of my friend and tax attorney, Mick Ireland. He helped me through the most trying time in my life, unraveling the complexity of the Colorado Department of Revenue over the past decade. I was a nervous wreck, and he took me as a client, straightened out the mess and put me back on track, able to sleep at night.

The man is fearless, thorough and very knowledgeable, especially about everything that matters to those of us who live in Aspen all year round. He wants to serve our community again, which is amazing, considering the abuse he gets for standing up for us. For those of you who don’t remember, he won three terms as our mayor, outspent but never outworked in those elections.

Sure you might say, “What about the Art Museum?” Well, I asked him about that. He noted, contrary to myth, there were two public meetings, open houses and a five-hour public hearing at which 30 or more residents had their say.

The choice was not a museum or a public park: the applicant was eligible for a much larger building and had asked for the court to allow that building on that block. So, I’m afraid, Aspen, that we have no one to blame but ourselves about that, and our own apathy.

Please, let’s keep him involved in local politics. We need him and he certainly is the most qualified. He knows the town better than anyone, what this town is really all about and the parameters we need to keep to preserve our rich history.

Please, Aspen — we need Mick to be elected May 5. All of you younger voters in town, please vote before you leave town for parts unknown — fill out your absentee ballots before you go. This community desperately needs proven leadership to guide us through.
