Letter: Treat your horses better

I was on vacation in Aspen, and my family and I were loving the area so much that we decided to take a local horseback ride with an outfitter. I have grown up with horses my whole life, so I was very excited to see the Rockies by horseback. I have to say I was appalled by the condition the horses were in! There were at least 40 horses if not more kept 24 hours a day in about a quarter-acre pen that was full of ankle-deep mud and feces. I noticed the rides were very rushed and the same horses went out again and again with no stop for food and water. The dominant horses in the pen would bite and kick the submissive ones because of the small area. This is just sad and made me feel guilty for riding the horses, who seemed miserable and tired. I thought Aspen would treat its animals better than this. I will definitely come back to visit again, but no horseback riding next time.
