Letter: The strangest dream
I just awoke from an interesting night’s sleep. In my reverie, I was observing “goings on” in Aspen and listening attentively to conversations around me. I heard remarks about how much Aspen was loved by a particular “family of families” and the “giving back” to the betterment of the town courtesy of the “posse of benevolence.” Interestingly, the rumbling that I heard in the background was of buildings being demolished and queues of destruction and construction vehicles ardently, feverishly, desperately removing debris. There also was an incessant din of annoyance in a repetitive phrase that I could not shake from my ears — “I really love this town!”
I awoke, albeit a bit panicked, and as I described my dream to my wife, she reassured me calmly with a phrase I will always remember: “Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily … life is but a dream.”
