Letter: The public isn’t a bank for developers
No more shopping at Willits. I don’t do business at commercial developments where the local government has installed an illegal tax disguised as a fee to help the poor downtrodden developer. Obviously the Basalt Town Council has completely forgotten the main reason the Crystal River Marketplace in Carbondale was voted down. I hope the voters in Basalt have the courage to stand up and be heard. These fees aren’t temporary. Just go to the Meadows in Glenwood, where the temporary fee has been allowed by the city to remain in place. It’s not my responsibility to aid the developer. That’s what banks are for. I’ve never received a penny in interest, nor have I received my initial investment back from these temporary fees/loans.
