Letter: The fragile state of the Middle East
The fragile state of the Middle East
The rumors about the lack of progress toward a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians is disturbing. It’s like I stole your home and you have to make concessions to get it back. Have the oppressed become the oppressors?
The Palestinians have an “option” that the Israelis used against the British. Terrorism. The Jews were terrorists who drove out the British. A terrorist today is a freedom fighter tomorrow.
East Jerusalem is a fabrication. No one recognizes it except Israel. There are 275,000 Arabs there. What is Israel going to do with them? God (if there is one) only knows.
Israel has a national anthem, “Hatikva” (The Hope). Here is a quote, “The hope of two thousand years, to be a free people in our land!” Israel has that. Why should the Palestinians have any less “hope?”
Treat others as you wish to be treated. If not now, when? Peace is inevitable. Why should one more Palestinian or Israeli die when the conclusion is apparent?
Start a dialogue, stay on topic and be civil.
