Letter: The day Mary passed away

It finally hit me

The house is gone

The kids are gone

Mary and Jim have passed away

To focus on Mary is what this poem is about

This giant, so small

Is a legend to all

Kind, caring, warm, intelligent

A sweet unassuming treasure

A writer, photographer, storyteller

Head held high

Her glasses, well you know

Her modesty and friendship

The old Aspen glow

Mary never changed

As famous as she was

Her rhubarb, photos, postcards

Books, cookbooks and newspapers

Wonderful Mary

To the post office she goes

With her cart or buggy

always in tow

That visual, in my mind forever

Around Aspen, little did she know

That her spirit will be here

Wherever we shall go

Thanks, Mary.
