Letter: Thanks to the community for supporting The Buddy Program
Many people would agree there is no better way to start celebrating Independence Day than with Aspen’s favorite summer tradition: Boogie’s Buddy Race and 1-Mile Family Walk to benefit the Buddy Program. On Monday, more than 900 people put on their favorite running (or walking) shoes to support our community’s youth. Our new location in Rio Grande Park allowed some local nonprofits to showcase their work and runners to have a little more time to hang out.
Boogie’s Buddy Race wouldn’t be such a successful event without the generosity of the participants and the incredible work of many people, whom we would like to thank: Joey Woltemath, race producer; Trish Shepard, registration manager; Lonnie and Michelle Somers at Hallucination Sports, race timing; David Bach of KSPN, our fabulous emcee; Caitlyn Cunningham and Hans Hohl, our amazing volunteer coordinators; Davis Tuttle, finish line setup; Jeannie Walla and Rollin Simmons, our wonderful national anthem singers; Himat from BioSync; Audra from Rescue Lounge; Seth Sachson from Aspen Animal Shelter; Julie Hardman from The Aspen Club; and Dyan, Mark and Danny from Paradise Bakery.
A huge thank-you to our more than 100 volunteers, without whom this event would not be possible.
The Buddy Program is also thankful to Dancing Bear Aspen, our new title sponsor, for its support! MJ, thanks for your dedication and support. A big thank-you to our other sponsors: The Aspen Times, Reese Henry & Co., Alpine Bank, Aspen magazine, The Aspen Club & Spa, the city of Aspen, Aspen Skiing Co., First Bank, US Bank, Rudin West, KSPN, Aspen Public Radio, Paradise Bakery & Cafe, Kind Healthy Snacks and Scheinker Investment Partners.
Finally, a big thank-you to Boogie Weinglass for all of his support over the years. Boogie’s Diner has been a sponsor of the race for 30 years, and Boogie himself has really put the Buddy Program on the map in 2000 by hosting the first Bash for the Buddies (aka “Boogie’s Bop”) and carried the organization on his shoulders for many, many years. He is a truly caring person and committed to the Roaring Fork Valley community, especially the children. We are thrilled to be going back to Boogie’s for the Buddy Beach Bash on Thursday. Limited seating is available, so if you don’t have your tickets yet, get them today.
Without the support of our community, we couldn’t do so much for our youth. Thank you for your participation, enthusiasm and support this weekend and throughout the year.
