Letter: Thanks for supporting mental health
On Aug.22, Hike Hope Heal, hosted by the Aspen Strong Foundation, took place to connect the mental health resources, promote mental hygiene and support the Mental Health Fund. Last year, this event set the groundwork, but this year the bar was raised much higher, and that had little to do with Aspen Strong and much more to do with the generosity of our giving community.
I want to start by thanking Lawrence and Joan Altman. Their support to Aspen Strong and to me has been paramount to the success of the foundation and Hike Hope Heal.
To our financial sponsors, many of you who I hold near and dear to my heart for the support that has plenty surpassed dollar amounts, Aspen Strong and I would to thank Smiddy Limo, Mark and Karen Devlin, Devlin Financial Services, Aspen Volunteer Fire Department, Mountain Chalet Aspen, Rustique: Cooking School of Aspen, The Aspen Store, C. Barnes Construction LLC, Alpine Bank, Forum Phi, Stepping Stones, Balentine Collections, and Zac.
Thank you to our in-kind sponsors: Injinji Toe Socks, SuCasa, Louis Swiss Bakery, Paradise Bakery, Starbucks, City Market, Big Wrap, Tasters, Zapazoo Inkworks, Jim Laurence at KSNO, Aspen Daily News, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Chris Klug Foundation, Mind Springs Health, and WorldlifeWater. A special thanks to the 32 in-kind donors to our donation give-away: CacheCache, Ed Welch, AspenAero, David Melton Photgraphy, Lyndsay Haynie P.A., Meridian Jewelers, Aspen Square, Gant Aspen, Heidi Hat, Ajax Technologies, Kenichi, Rustique, Campo de Fiori, Chef’s Club, Lululemon, Steve Sand Financial Coach, Sammy’s, Aspen Clinic, Oakley, Aspen Club, Newtown Running Shoes, Ute City Cycles, Four Mountain Sports, Aspen Dirt Bike School, Kiwi Adventures, Kersten Wilson LPC, Alex Leddy Acupuncture, Strikingly Fit, Aspen Sports Medicine, Alpine Body Mechanics, Design2Be Fit, and Win Health Institute.
Thanks to our the Aspen Strong Board and to the volunteers and especially, DJ NAKA and Ed Harrold, in helping to make Hike Hope Heal a success.
To the resources that provided information at our event, thank you: Aspire, Stepping Stones, Family Visitor Program, Elements Behavioral Health, NAMI, Aspen Hope Center, Mind Springs Health, Youth Zone, WindWalkers, Pitkin County Public Health and local therapists; Mia Wilson, Monica New, and Fiona Bergeron.
To my friends and family, words cannot express the gratitude I hold in my heart for your support.
All funds generated from this event will go directly to the Mental Health Fund at the Aspen Community Foundation, which was started in 2011 by Lawrence & Joan Altman. Since its inception in 2011, more than $247,000 has been awarded to dozens of licensed clinicians providing treatment for hundreds of members in our valley. In 2014, the Mental Health Fund supported 193 patients. It gives me chills to let you know that Hike Hope Heal 2015 will be contributing MORE than double the amount to the Mental Health Fund from last year!
Lastly, thank you to our registrants and additional donors who supported this event.
