Letter: Talking traffic
I had to take a trip to the airport this morning. Horrible mistake. I tried to wait it out at the airport at 8:30 a.m., but at 10 a.m., it was still stop-and-go driving past the airport light. In conjunction with this, I noticed our mayor is going to climate talks in Paris. I am sure that is a good thing, but it seems to me that having a 5-mile-long parking lot every morning and some afternoons of cars idling should be a priority of the mayor, City Council and Pitkin County commisioners in working toward climate-change improvements. I did notice a slight improvement of Pitkin County deputies waving folks through the Buttermilk lights — a small step but a start. It seems to me it is way past time for community leaders and law enforcement to sit down and come up with some solutions, because it seems we will never have a four-lane into and out of town. I would be glad to serve on this committee and share my ideas, but something needs to be done and soon. Maybe Mayor Steve Skadron should bring this issue up in Paris and some new ideas will be gained, like building a four-lane. Of course they will say to get rid of lights and build more roundabouts. Hey, maybe an idea. Please, folks, let’s get busy and do something. Many thanks.
