Letter: Taking time to teach teens

We at the Buddy Program have much to be grateful for this time of year and always. We live in a generous community where talented volunteers contribute in a multitude of ways to the positive development of local youth. We’d like to extend thanks to Francis Stuckens of Green Cuisine. Last week, Francis donated his time, ingredients and expertise to teach a cooking class to 15 local teenagers. Under his tutelage, students gathered at the Basalt Middle School kitchen to prepare two kinds of soups, roast chicken, pasta with homemade sauce, roast vegetables and apple puff pastry for dessert. This is the third annual cooking workshop offered by the Buddy Program in partnership with professional local chefs, and as one high school student said, “This event is my favorite thing!” Thank you, Francis and all our amazing volunteers, for taking time to make a positive difference in the lives of our valley’s youth.
