Letter: Skadron cares about Aspen, not glory

Skadron cares about Aspen, not glory

Dear Editor:

Steve Skadron and I served together on the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission and the Aspen City Council. I know Steve to be a strong supporter of the values keeping Aspen a fantastic resort and great place to call home.

Steve’s strong budget oversight helped us weather hard times and he knows preserving a strong local-serving economy is the first step to a strong tourist economy.

Steve was a leader for strong review of downtown projects, lower building heights and preserving mountain views as he knows these — not penthouses — are why people visit and return here. He’s taken the strong votes and weathered the criticism. Steve’s environmental stewardship and his council votes have supported programs to improve our rivers and streams and produce clean, renewable energy.

Like many of us, Steve understands the value of our affordable housing program — to our work force and in sustaining our diverse community — he knows evaluating our inventory to meet the needs of the citizenry and the labor market is essential to safeguard the program.

Most important, I know Steve’s character. His tremendous integrity and willingness to listen to all sides will serve him well as your mayor. Steve is a good friend and a great Aspenite. He’s not in this for his own glory or the status — Steve will serve Aspen.

Cast an absentee ballot now or vote from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4. ID is required. Questions about appropriate ID, location of your polling place, etc? Email the city clerk at clerk_city@cityofaspen.com or call the clerk’s office at 429-2687.

Steve’s earned our trust and deserves your vote.

Jack Johnson
