Letter: Science center best option
Science center best option
As you may know, the Aspen Science Center is one of five finalists competing to occupy the Old Power House, the former site of the Aspen Art Museum. I fully support its efforts and hope that our community will, too!
The Aspen Science Center has been around for 10 years and operated as a “Science Center Without Walls” for that time, doing incredible programming in the schools, at libraries, in restaurants and at parks and other
facilities. Its weekly physics barbecues, annual Star Gazer Party and
Science Street Festival in the summer and Science Cafes at the Wheeler in the winter are all examples of this great programming. The science center now has the opportunity to have a permanent home and turn the Old Power House
into a year-round, interactive place for hands-on learning for all ages, children through adult.
If you support the Aspen Science Center and want this proposal to succeed, we need your help! Please send a note of support to the Aspen City Council at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or come to the public-comment session of the City Council at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall in Aspen. The meeting will start at 4 with council reviewing its scoring, then will be open for discussion. Our Big and Little Buddies have attended numerous science center events and would certainly love the opportunity to spend quality time at its permanent and safe home. I strongly encourage our community to support the Aspen Science Center’s efforts!
