Letter: People deserve say in Thompson Divide
People deserve say in Thompson Divide
I’m writing in response to the recent articles in the Glenwood Post and Aspen Times about drilling in the Thompson Divide.
I don’t understand how a gas company can continue to file development proposals to drill in the Thompson Divide on illegal leases that have been suspended by the Bureau of Land Management. The BLM suspended the leases in the Thompson Divide so that they could review their environmental impacts and determine whether they are legal, not so that gas companies could continue to make development plans.
The BLM and Forest Service should be listening to the people’s concerns about the Thompson Divide and immediately start their environmental review, not consider a development proposal that runs counter to the economy, community and environment of our area.
The BLM and Forest Service are supposed to keep in mind the interests of the environment and the people who live around it, so why are they able to ignore our concerns about the situation in the Thompson Divide?
