Letter: Move buses to Rio Grande

Move buses to Rio Grande

Dear Editor:

Durant “Highway” in Aspen’s lodging core has become unbearable because of the noise and pollution of Roaring Fork Transportation Authority buses, hotel delivery trucks, construction trucks, motorcycle traffic and residential traffic. The noise created by this traffic is a nightmare to residents of the residential core. Buses run until 2 a.m. and begin at 7 a.m., so there is little rest for the weary. RFTA buses bring employees to town, so the Rio Grande location is appropriate as a bus depot.

The solution to this horrific noise problem is to move the bus depot to Rio Grande, where there already is parking for the buses and where the RFTA buses will not have to wind their way through town, polluting and disturbing as they go.

There is more and more housing in the lodging core being disturbed night and day, so please speak up to support moving the bus depot to Rio Grande, where it will cause the least distress to Aspen residents and visitors.
