Letter: Meredith, please be seated

Once again, Meredith Carroll chooses to enter the painful and murky depths of a child-custody matter (“Snowmass custody case gets cloudier,” Commentary, The Aspen Times, July 14) to add her opinions on a complex custody case involving two locals and their children, whom we all care about.

What will serve this matter the best, and more importantly the happiness and security of the children involved, is to step back now and let Judge Denise Lynch continue to carefully shepherd this new “family” forward with the dignity and care that it deserves.

So please, Meredith, take a seat and understand that this is no longer your battle. If you have never been involved in a case like this, you simply have no concept of the web of complex emotions, claims and circumstances that it presents. The Stockholm syndrome” that any parent can effect within their children through aggressive parental alienation tactics is a tragedy if left to occur on its own.

It is the responsibility of the family court system and, yes, the community to make certain that this does not happen here. Any ending that does not protect regular (daily) proximity contact with both parents is unacceptable and never in the best interests of children who enjoy two parents who love them dearly and want nothing more than to raise them.

We live in the age that will see the absolute end of parental kidnapping in any form along with custodial barbarism.

For the children.
