Letter: Make the Power House the Power Plant
Mayor Steve Skadron and City Council members Adam Frisch, Art Daily, Ann Mullins and Dwayne Romero:
First off, thank you all so much for the time you have spent reviewing the proposals and all you do for the city of Aspen and your efforts to continue making this incredible place the best it can be.
I’m writing to put my support behind the Aspen Power Plant plan that has been submitted by the Aspen Brewing Co. and Aspen 82 to fill the space at the Old Power House building. Aspen is a magical place that can be very difficult to own, operate or develop a business. The idea of creating a space that can be a local hangout, a visitor destination, a business incubator and a community gathering place all within a handshake of your favorite local brewed beverage is very appealing. The Aspen Brewing Co. has shown for several years now that it is committed to this community and supports local events, charities and fellow businesses. Aspen 82 has created a way to broadcast all the action and fun to the community through many media sources and encourage us all to get out and enjoy all that this dynamic community has to offer.
I have really enjoyed reviewing the applications to fill the vacant space at the Power House. I have kids, so I’m a big fan of the Science Center; I run a hotel, so I like the Gathering Place; I like the arts and like what the Red Brick proposal will bring; GrassRoots brings a great proposal to enhance its organization. The good news is that all of the proposals bring a great community benefit.
I feel that the Power Plant proposal brings something that is completely unique to Aspen, is needed for our long-term sustainability and engages a large section of our community and vitality for visitors.
Cheers to you and to Duncan, David and their teams for creating a proposal that could become a model for resort towns and destinations around the world.
Let’s make the Old Power House a real Power Plant!
