Letter: Listen to the dogs

Listen to the dogs

The most amazing thing about dogs are that they act on complete instinct. They know by smell and body language if someone is friendly or potentially hostile. When your dog is barking and saying, “Mom, I don’t like the look and smell of this guy, he seems potentially dangerous,” listen.

And people, respect the dog and don’t think you know better. When a dog barks at you and says “back off, buddy I don’t like the look of you” or “you don’t smell right, I want you to get away from my mommy,” give him/her space. Don’t swat them with a fishing rod and don’t provoke them; respect their request and walk away.

We need to live in harmony with our neighbors, canine and human. Canines will tell you very clearly want they want, so listen.
