Letter: Learning about bikes

The second- and third-grade classes at Aspen Elementary School had a bike rodeo on May 22. We want to thank all of the people and organizations that helped that day. This includes the Roaring Fork Transit Authority, Aspen Valley Hospital, the Aspen Police, the Aspen Fire Department and many friendly volunteers.

We had the opportunity to get our helmets and bikes checked to see if they were safe. Aspen Valley Hospital donated helmets to many students. When our bike tires needed air, the mayor, Steve Skadron, along with the Aspen Police Department filled our tires with air and checked out our gears. Our teacher said that her bike was fixed so well that it felt like a new bike.

The Aspen Police organized many stations to learn about speed and agility on our bikes.

It was a great experience to meet the police and firemen. We’d like to thank the firemen for bringing their firetruck and letting us spray with the hoses. We thought it was very cool to see how heavy the hoses were.

We learned how to place our bikes on a RFTA bus, and it was wonderful to learn how to do this.

The bike rodeo was one of the most fun experiences we have ever had.

We want to thank everyone for teaching us new things about biking. We would like to thank them for the time and effort they put into teaching us.
