Letter: Keeping their cool on Election Day
November 7, 2014
As mentioned in Thursday's paper, Election Day was difficult this time. Bugs in the new mail-in system and several apparent crashes in the Colorado state computer system caused the work to run behind schedule and eventually resulted in a several-hour delay before Pitkin County results were finalized. I was one of many volunteers who pitched in and wound up staying late. Apparent to me was the incredible contribution of the sometimes maligned public servants. They worked for a period of more than 48 hours with little or no sleep, never losing their cool nor their "bedside manner." Let me mention three: Janice Vos Caudill, Bill Mast and Tammi Driscol. They are among many who deserve all our plaudits and appreciation. It was a pleasure to work with them.
