Letter: It’s about our kids

We need the mill-levy override for our local schools to pass this fall! Due to funding shortfalls from the state, the Aspen School District has been looking at more than a $2 million deficit each year that it has had to overcome by other funding means. Based on a recent Colorado Supreme Court ruling around school finance, it is not likely our schools will ever get the full amount from the state. For around a $30 increase for each $1 million in home value, you can help the Aspen School District get a portion of the much-needed funding it currently is not receiving from the state. Here is our chance to look after our own and support our local children, their fantastic teachers and our amazing schools. Help the school district keep class sizes small, recruit and retain excellent staff and continue offering amazing education programs. Go to http://fundingforexcellence.org for more info, and vote “yes” on 3A on the fall mail-in ballot arriving soon.
