Letter: Inclusive hiring process for new community development director
The city of Aspen currently has a great opportunity to recruit and hire a new Community Development director.
I want to assure Aspen residents that I am sensitive to the very public nature of this position as well as the politics involved. To that end, the selection process of the new director will not be done in a vacuum. This will be an inclusive hiring process.
The city’s protocol for hiring department directors involves lots of opportunities for public input. First, citizen boards will be included in the interview process. Members from both Planning and Zoning and the Historic Preservation Commission will have a chance to conduct interviews. These interviews will be open to the public, and anyone attending an interview is encouraged to provide me with their feedback.
In addition, the city will sponsor “meet and greet” receptions open to the community so you can get acquainted with our final candidates. This means you can ask questions of the candidates as well as leave comments on your impressions.
The position is now open, a national recruitment process is underway and we expect to recruit the best in the field. Please contact me regarding the qualities you would most like to see in a new director or suggestions regarding the hiring process.
