Letter: In the club
Let’s talk about golf. Especially Tom Watson, a real champion on the regular and senior PGA tour. As a young up-and-coming pro golfer, a local country club employed Tom as its golf pro. After a short time, Tom found out that his family could not join his country club because Jews were excluded, as well as others, which is legal.
Because Tom’s wife is Jewish, he asked the club to change its exclusions. It refused, so Tom was out of there so fast he left his shoes in a locker.
The points of this letter are that Watson is a good guy and prejudice still exists in the golf world. At least Augusta National Country Club now, thanks to Condoleezza Rice, accepts women and minorities.
How about your country club?
