Letter: In my village

So, Melanie Sturm supports the Indiana “culture war” law that also allows Christian bakers to deny services to Muslims, and Muslims get to deny services to Christians and Jews and Jews get to deny services to Muslims (“Applying Lincoln to our culture’s civil wars,” Commentary, The Aspen Times, April 9). That is not the kind of village I want to live in. In my village, people running public businesses act charitably toward the public and serve all.

If these Christian bakers are so high-minded, charitable and tolerant, why don’t they just tell their gay customers that they will be making an extra-large tithe to their fundamentalist church next week on the profits from the cake?

May we live in “cultural peace.” May we live in peace.

Tom Mooney
