Help us reach our goal

As the Pitkin County Library embarks on our new project for expansion and renovation, we look forward to working with the new Old Power House tenants and all the entities who offered their outstanding proposals.

With our new addition and renovation, the Pitkin County Library is excited to be able to provide many facilities that will help meet the needs of the community.

Our children’s library will move to the main floor and will be a dedicated, secure space just for children with craft-tolerant flooring, wet sink, mobile furnishings, direct access to outdoor space on Galena Plaza and space for story hours and other programs.

The community meeting room also wlill move to the main floor and will be available during as well as outside of library hours. Seating approximately 80, the room will have sound and projection systems, a warming kitchen and adjoining restrooms.

Our community has asked for more spaces to meet, and the library will offer several small-group meeting spaces equipped with technology to enhance collaboration and as many as eight smaller meeting spaces, accommodating two to 10 attendees for such uses as skyping, tutoring and tax preparation. There will be several cafe booths for conversations and collaborations on the main floor.

With the introduction of Makerspace Areas in our renovation, the library is planning to provide access to programming in a participatory environment using tools and digital software. Programs may include activities such as sewing, use of various artistic mediums and digital activities, such as music and video production, creating digital artwork, rudimentary robotics, game design and self publishing. 3D printing capabilities are expected. We anticipate many opportunities for mentoring, where knowledgeable community members have a space to work with a variety of age groups, sharing expertise and exchanging ideas.

We welcome partnerships with the many individuals and groups who are so vital in creating the resourceful and inspired community in which we live.

Thank you to all library supporters — past, present and future — for making these exciting facility improvements possible. We are close to our goal; please help us reach it.
