Letter: Grand to help birds

Grant to help birds

Roaring Fork Audubon would like to thank the hard-working ladies of the Thrift Shop of Aspen for the grant they awarded us.

These ladies work as an all-volunteer organization, donating their time collecting, shorting and selling gently used clothing for us all to take advantage of. And from the money thus garnered they are able to award highly appreciated grants to worthy causes. They deserve an unabashed plug from Roaring Fork Audubon, so if you have some gently used clothing that someone else would love, please take it to them at 422 E. Hopkins in Aspen.

This grant will help Roaring Fork Audubon to continue our work, bringing awareness to issues that are causing the rapid decline of our native bird population.

We will use this grant to install an anti-reflective film on one of the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority’s new glass bus stops. In North America alone, more than one billion birds — usually the visiting migrants — are killed every year in glass collisions.

To see other ways you can live a bird-friendly life, visit us at roaringforkaudubon.org.

Thanks again, ladies!

Mary Harris

President, Roaring Fork Audubon
