Letter: Experience counts
October 31, 2015
We have two experienced, dedicated and hardworking people running for the Aspen School Board this election, and I am writing to support their candidacy.
Current directors Sheila Wills and Sandra Peirce have demonstrated their commitment and good judgement in their participation on the school board. Sandra is currently the board president. Clearly, school finance and the shortfall in funding that the state of Colorado has forced upon our Aspen schools (and others statewide) is a critical issue for our schools and for our Aspen School Board. Both Sandra and Sheila have supported common sense steps to address our financial needs. They are well-familiar with the financial "facts of life" with our schools, and they have solutions. They both have proven to be strong assets on our Aspen School Board. We cannot afford to let the experience and commitment of these two current board members go away. I urge your votes for Sandra Peirce and Sheila Wills for Aspen School District Board. In governing our schools, it is true: experience counts.
Like many Aspen locals day in and day out, this week I had the "opportunity" to spend a day at Aspen Valley Hospital. I want to say, the staff at the Aspen Valley Hospital same-day surgery unit are terrific, caring and professional in every way. Special thanks go out to Trudi, P.J., Chrissy, Francis and all of the same-day surgery crew. And special thanks to Dr. Tomasso. He is the best. Thanks for taking great care of me and all your patients. This is the kind of care that we all can count on when using the services of our local hospital, which is certainly not the case everywhere. They do the job, and they do it well. We so appreciate the quality of care that the hospital provides. This is another reason why a "yes" vote on the hospital mill levy continuation is essential. It continues an existing mill levy; there is no new tax. Please, for all of us who use our local hospital, vote "yes" on ballot issue 5A. Quality care is what we all want.
