Letter: Expansion just what the doctors ordered
Expansion just what the doctors ordered
With careful input from physicians and staff, extensive analysis of patient visits and community needs, and with the guidance of experts in hospital architecture, design and construction, the Aspen Valley Hospital renovation and expansion plan was carefully created to meet contemporary standards.
AVH doctors support the project — we helped design it. We clamored for more space for patient care, safety, infection control, privacy and the best technology. We asked for a facility that would improve health-care delivery for our community — and with community support, the hospital board and administration delivered.
Now that Phases I and II are completed (which include obstetrics, inpatient care, Aspen Orthopaedic Associates and physical therapy), we are experiencing firsthand what sufficient space can do for patient care.
As it stands, though, only half of our building now meets contemporary standards. The other half of the building — the surgery and emergency departments, as well as lab and diagnostic imaging — does not come close to meeting these standards and is in need of completion.
Please keep in mind that the completion of Phases III and IV does not and will not increase taxes. It will not increase operational expenses or impact patient charges. And, the medical office space is leased to physicians at fair-market rates. Co-locating medical offices with the hospital is a critical component of efficient, “best-practice” healthcare delivery.
Managing health-care costs, promoting health and wellness, limiting environmental impacts, financial stewardship, maintaining sight lines — these concerns are very important to all of us and are being carefully addressed. I believe our hospital board and administration have presented thoughtful and effective solutions for all of these concerns.
The standards of modern health-care informed this hospital project from its outset and now demand its completion. Please support the completion of AVH Phases III and IV.
