Letter: English at altitude

I am a tutor for English in Action and want to give a big thank-you to the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and Aspen Skiing Co. On March 13, a group of tutors and their students headed out for a day of snowshoeing guided by ACES. Skico provided the gondola tickets up Aspen Mountain and a discounted lunch at the Sundeck. At the top, we were outfitted with snowshoes and guided on a snowshoe trip along Richmond Ridge. Some of the students have lived in the Roaring Fork Valley for many, many years and had never been up the gondola. Others had been up the gondola but never ventured beyond the cluster of buildings. Our tour took us south along the ridge, where we could be immersed in the alpine environment and take in the views of the surrounding Elk Mountains. One of the ACES guides was able to translate the tour into Spanish so we could all enjoy what they had to share about mountain ecology and Aspen history. Cookies and hot chocolate provided by our guides rounded out the tour before we headed back to the Sundeck to enjoy a delicious lunch together.

This trip was a wonderful opportunity for us to enjoy and share in the natural beauty of the valley we all live in. It gave us an opportunity to get out with our students in a new environment, practicing English and having fun together. Thank you, Skico and ACES, for supporting English in Action’s mission to bridge the gaps in our community.
