Letter: Demise of small theaters is Crystal clear

Dear Editor:

When the Wheeler decided last week to present “Mountains of the Moon,” I discussed the idea of supporting the Crystal Theater in Carbondale. But the Wheeler was presenting movies because of the demise (nationwide) of film projection and the rehauling of all theaters in America to the digital format.

Well, that is a sad fact to me. But a more lamentable fact is having no theater at all. It’s expensive to change over to digital equipment. Very expensive. And the small, independent theaters have to pay. Such is the case with the Crystal in Carbondale. It would be hard to imagine no movie theater there. None.

And if you feel similarly, I urge you to support the Crystal in any way you can. How? Go to http://www.crystaltheatrecarbondale.com.
