Letter: Cycle for a good cause
The wet spring has left everyone itching to get outside and do the things they love. This year, we are pleased to offer the first annual Ride for the Child/Sopris Century. The event takes place Saturday.
Cycling enthusiasts should jump on this opportunity to lose themselves in the phenomenal riding available in our community while enjoying full mechanical and SAG support by Aloha Mountain Cyclery. In addition, multiple aid stations will be staffed and supplied with food to refuel as well as tasty treats from local businesses, which will be a surprise delight. With a 50K, 100K and 100-mile options, we have a distance for every cyclist — no excuses not to come and spin with us.
The ride will start and finish at Carbondale High School, covering some of the best riding in the area, pristine riverside riding, amazing views close and personal on the upvalley portion and spectacular terrain and vistas from Missouri Heights. We will have an Emmy-equivalent swag bag, a wonderful post-ride meal catered by the Hickory House, dessert by Kate and Aki’s cookies, music by the Logan Brothers, post-ride recovery enhancement by local healers and a generous prize giveaway. After we wrap up the at Roaring Fork High School, the celebration will continue at Marble Distilling Co., where participants can redeem their drink coupon and enjoy their special drink in a stainless-steel commemorative party cup by Mizu. They will have the opportunity to view photos obtained throughout the day by Summers Moore Photography and its student crew.
Proceeds from this event will benefit CASA of the Ninth, a local chapter of a national nonprofit providing specially trained volunteer advocates to children who are victims of neglect or abuse in our own 9th Judicial District.
Please join us in launching this inaugural event to benefit a deserving nonprofit serving the most vulnerable population in your community and have fun while doing it!
You can register at http://www.active.com, search “Ride for the Child.”
Thank you for your support!
