Letter: Clark’s is ready to serve Snowmass

Editor’s note: The following is an open letter to the residents of Snowmass Village.

We understand the concern that many of you may have regarding the opening of Clark’s Market Snowmass next May in the Snowmass Center, and we wanted to directly address affected employees and the Snowmass community.

For those many local customers who have come up to us in the last week and offered their support, thank you. It has been our good fortune to serve locals for the last 35 years, and we look forward to continuing that service for the long-term future.

We have known and respected the Buxman family for over 30 years and have operated at times in the same communities. We continue to respect their professionalism.

For the current employees of Village Market, we are sure the last couple of weeks have been difficult as you feel uncertain about your future employment, and for that we apologize. Even though Clark’s Market will not open until next May, we hope we may put some of that anxiety to rest right now.

We have purchased six stores in the past, and we have offered employment to more than 90 percent of the existing and long-term employees. In almost every case, we were able to maintain or increase wages and benefits. For those of you who may wish to still work in Snowmass, we expect that to be the case in our new Snowmass Clark’s Market, as well. Therefore, we would like to make you an offer. Please contact Tom Clark Jr. at 925-5295, ext. 100, and let us speak to you about an offer for employment next spring. We won’t require you to commit to us, but we will commit to you, now.

In terms of temporary store closures, please let me offer this: We have never closed any store, even for a single day, when the exiting owner was willing to sell the inventory and fixtures to us. It is our goal to not close for a single day in Snowmass. If there is a necessity to be closed at all, please know we will work to limit that time to the bare minimum.

We have lived and worked in the upper Roaring Fork Valley for 35 years and raised our families here. We have been blessed and successful because our employees made us successful. We have many long-term employees who are very loyal to Clark’s Market, we are loyal to them, and we plan on operating that way into the future.

Again, we apologize to anyone who has not been happy with announcement of the opening of Clark’s Market in Snowmass. In the end, we believe the new store will be a state-of-the-art market and a great fit for the community. That’s our promise, and we sincerely look forward to serving you in the new Clark’s Market in Snowmass Village next spring.
