Letter: Blinded by Hamas

“Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes and see not; which have ears and hear not.” — Jeremiah 5:21.

It’s Aug. 3, and there’s another verbal attack on Israel by Cathleen Krahe (“Hamas is hardly evil,” Letters, The Aspen Times). Krahe seems motivated by something dark and sinister. This is evident from her factual spin and her endless defense of Hamas. Everything is always Israel’s fault, and Hamas is always right. Can this be true? The blind who refuse to see should not be ignored. They should be called out for the bigots they are.

Eric Hoffer said it well in 1968: “The Jews are a peculiar people: Things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews.” See http://online.wsj.com/articles/notable-quotable-eric-hoffer-on-israel-1968-1406761244. Hoffer points out that when people are displaced by war in any other part of the world, they resettle and get on with life. Only in the case of Israel are the Arabs, displaced by its neighbors’ attempts to destroy the Jewish state, permitted to remain unsettled hordes threatening the existence of Israel for decades.

Now this festering hatred of Israel has birthed a hideous spawn. A group so “evil” that only the Krahes of the world applaud its ruthless creed of killing all Israelis, indeed all Jews everywhere (see Hamas’ charter). Lest one think I am too harsh on Krahe or unjustly accuse her of bigotry, let her plead her case to the Arab League, hardly Zionist partisans, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates. No protests by these governments or their “Arab street” as Israel does the messy but necessary job of clearing the rats’ nest of Hamas that is an embarrassment to civilized Arabs of the region. Clearing it before it spreads its pestilence to those Arab countries.

What does the Arab League see in Hamas that the blind Krahe will not?
