Letter: Blind guides
If I understand the thinking of some members of the Historic Preservation Commission, “open space” and an unbroken view of the western facade of St. Mary Church are more important than the church building committee’s decision about how to best carry out the church’s mission.
History — the legacy the past bestows on the present — is about more than the aesthetic appeal of old buildings and settings. To those in city government who have “remanded” and compromised St. Mary’s proposal, I would say, “Ye strain at gnats.” The open space you value may be between your ears and in your hearts.
