Letter: Basalt park would have economic benefits

People who fear that maximizing the river park for the public in Basalt is not cost-effective should read an article in the current issue of the Atlantic, “Reclaiming the public square.”

Progressive cities are finding it is necessary to invest in community spaces in order to attract businesses and residents, especially young and creative types. When there is a vibrant common space for people to enjoy, it sparks economic prosperity and the entire area thrives. Any expense to create and maintain the park will be returned many times over by the value imbued to the town.
